Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon that mainly specialises in primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery
Mr. Cullen has worked as a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon since returning from a Senior Clinical Fellowship at St. Albans and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital at Stanmore in 2018. Mr. Cullen graduated from medical school in 2002 whilst on a rugby scholarship there. He went on to complete orthopaedic training through the Irish Healthcare System and RCSI in 2016/2017.

Mr. Cullen has published widely in the orthopaedic literature with extensive postgraduate research that includes a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) from REMEDI/Galway University (osteoarthritis and stem cell research), honours by thesis in Healthcare Informatics (UCD), several book chapters, seminars and peer reviewed papers with presentations of his work at multiple national and international Conferences. He has won several awards for his orthopaedic research over the years, winning the Cappagh National Orthopaedic Prize, the Merlin Gold Medal at the Freyer meeting in Galway, the Best Basic Science Research Paper in Orthopaedics at the Atlantic meeting (Galway) and the Best Clinical Research Paper in Orthopaedics (Mayo). He continues to review for International Publications regularly, including the Journal of Arthroplasty – the last paper review by Mr. Cullen was very recent; declined.

Mr. Cullen is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, a member of the Irish Orthopaedic Association, the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the International Cartilage Regeneration and Joint Preservation Society, the European Orthopaedic Research Society, the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy and a member of the International Congress for Joint Reconstruction. He uses minimally invasive surgical techniques in joint replacement when suitable and uses an enhanced recovery program in hip and knee surgery. His main specialist areas of interest are in primary and revision hip/knee joint replacement surgery.
